      GYROKINESIS®

      Gyrokinesis exercises are the core of Juliu Horvath’s methodology. Gyrokinesis exercises are performed while seated on stools, standing and laying on the floor. This movement systematically and gently works the joints and muscles through rhythmic undulating exercises. Postures are not held for long periods of time. Instead, postures are smoothly connected through use of breath, making exercises appear and feel more like a dance than traditional yoga.

      Beginner classes start with self-massage and simple breathing patterns to the awaken the body. More advanced classes add endurance training to prepare for more strenuous activities.

      about Mia | After a successful 10 year dance career, Mia Munroe’s subsequent training as an exercise instructor came directly from studying with Juliu Horvath, creator of the Gyrotonic Expansion System®. Now a Gyrokinesis Master Trainer, she has established successful local Gyrokinesis classes. Studying Psychology at the University of Washington has significantly enhanced her teaching and allowed her to develop classes for specific demographics. Her Gyrokinesis classes simultaneously cater to all ages and multiple levels of athleticism.

      The word Gyrotonic comes from the words “gyro”, meaning spiral or circle and “tonic”, meaning to tone or invigorate. It is based on fluid, circular movements using specialized equipment.

      Breathing patterns are synchronized with the exercises to stimulate the nervous system, and create a revitalizing and invigorating flow of energy. As these processes come together, stiffness is released: flexibility, inner strength and coordination are improved, while stress and the risk of injury are reduced. Everyday movement becomes easier and more efficient, resulting in an increase in vitality and well-being.

      Juliu Horvath created this system by integrating his intensive studies of yoga, dance and gymnastics with his in-depth knowledge of the body. The Gyrotonic Methodology is regarded as an excellent form of exercise and rehabilitation by orthopedists, physical therapists, chiropractors and healthcare practitioners world-wide.
